Task Analysis - Teaching addition Part 1

As a diverse learner learn mathemtics, the process will reveal the steps which needed to be broken down into more smaller steps to enable the child to master a skill. Task analysis comes into place when this occurs. Every child learn differently and they have different potential. Therefore, task analysis for each learning objective will varies from one individual to another when teaching a diverse leaner.

For example, teaching addtion of numbers from 0 to 10. The basic arithmetic skills needed to teach first are:
i meaning of numbers from 0 to 10
ii equation sign +
iii adddition sign =

The basic tasks are then drawn like 3 above steps. For each step, there are further smaller steps to be broken into in order to reach the objective.

i a vocalise the sound from 0 to 10
b writing the numbers from 0 to 10
c associate the quantity to related number (can use icons, items as quantities)
d associate the numbers to related quantity

ii a vocalise the + sign
b associate "plus" with the sign +
c associate "plus" with the meaning "and"
d associate + and "and"

iii a vocalise the sign =
b associate equal quantities to sign =
c introduce number sentence 1+2 = 3
d introduce vertical addition method 1
